I can expand my rather basic terminology developed on Lundy Island
‘Rabbit King’ he lives in a ‘seigneurial’ landscape.
The ‘pillow mounds’ for rabbit warrens a physical indicator of the Rabbit Kings presence in the landscape.
Seigneurial system, Manorialism- the socio-economic system of the middle ages
Mangas = larger/ smooth flesh

From sea to plate
John Macculloch would seem to be playing with an old theme the idea that for every creature of the land/ one for the sea.
How is this relationship established and made demonstrable?
From what I have witnessed in Orkney, and in the hands that know full well how to calculate agricultural returns, I an inclined to think that, in many of the Western Islands the cultivation of rabbits might be advantageous…………. But what can be expected for these poor creatures, when their betters are content to go on in the old way; little anxious to increase their comforts, and, after they have made one or two of these great efforts to improvement which are almost forced on them by the progress of the country, unwilling to be at the trouble of thinking again on the subject, or of striving to improve upon improvement.
Common poultry forms a port of almost every tenant’s establishment, however small; and thee fowls are inmates of the house, always partaking of the fire in wet weather with the other two legged inhabitants, as well as with the snoring and useless curs. The people might advantageously raise much more than they do, if they would be at the trouble of……..
It would be well for the small tenants if they would learn to pay the same attention to ducks and geese; as both of these will consume and thrive on much natural food that, for the want of such consumers is wasted. Both are rare but geese more so…………. Pools and lakes are found everywhere, and the interminable sea coasts are peculiarly adapted to these animals; though I do not recommend you to eat them without some other preparation: it is enough to smell them at the fire. Whether fishy duck, fishy goose, or fishy pig, is the most savoury dish, I am somewhat at a lose to judge, after having tried them all; but the Porco Pesce is certainly a worse morsel than his Italian namesake.

Archeological of the Subject
Thinking back to when I first searched for the barnacle goose.
Failure to find it.
Archive, non-computerized, series of cards housed in an antique, probable Edwardian wooden, box card filing cabinet.
No where to be found under B.
G. For Goose.
Most things were simply identified as geese with no visual description. Impossible to determine in most cases what the species referred to was.
It was irritating.
Seemed to be a system error.
No thought seems to have gone into the system and no thought goes in to why you identify it as an error.
It just is.
A systemic relationship.
A family term, goose/ geese
History of the subject and its classification, staring you in the face. I fail to see it for what it is, because I know better.
Day out in country. I hope its goose free.
Monday. I need to do some seriously mundane stuff.
Work out the difference in size between a green goose and a stubble goose?
I suspect its the issue with the archeology here. Method used to determine the difference between wild fowl and domestic geese is size. Domestic goose is considered to be bigger, so its measuring bone mass and calculating weight.
Also been looking at a conjectural goose economy (yes its got that sad). Records don’t turn up until the 13th century. But by 1250 the model indicates 100% price increase. Golden egg territory .
Unfortunately not enough data to model the 12th century (also got no idea how accurate the model is for the 13th cen.) that would be interesting. Gerald’s description is one of the big moments in goose history.
Some may argue the subsequent history is something of an anti-climax. Me, I like geese.
Domestication of geese is labor intensive, so crash in production post black- death.
What of the Gannet Lord here?

Heh Are ye guan gaindering about that gate for, as ye didna ken whilk end o’ye were uppermost? “That’s easily kend, father. What has come ower ye? Hae ye seen a warlock that ye are gaping and glowring at sic a dismal rate?” ” Waur than ony warlock, ye twa glaiket hizzies.
James Hogg, Three Perils of Man.
To goose, to gander
To look, a fool, to wander (aimlessly)
To goose or pinch has sexual connotations.
Goosey goosey gander,
Whither shall I wander?
Upstairs and downstairs
And in my lady’s chamber.
There I met an old man
Who wouldn’t say his prayers,
So I took him by his left leg
And threw him down the stair
Does gooseness represent the death of things?
Living/ dead term related to consumption and taste, where one thing looks pretty much like the other?
Can I read something literally at least once in my life?
